The Chapeau d’Amour, also known as the “hat of love,” is the world’s most expensive hat, valued at $2.7 million. It was created by celebrity couture designer Louis Mariette in 2004.
The hat is made of woven platinum and is covered in stunning diamonds. The design of the hat was inspired by ivy and bluebells. The hat was modeled by actress Alicia Witt at Christie’s in London.
The Chapeau d’Amour was created when Mariette was approached by Harrods to design a spectacular creation for the launch of their new luxury millinery and wedding department. The hat took Mariette on several invited trips, including to Dubai and to Cliveden House, where the bluebells in the forest inspired the design of the hat.
Despite its high value, the Chapeau d’Amour is not for sale. It remains a unique and valuable piece of fashion history, showcasing Mariette’s skills in millinery and his ability to push the boundaries of design and technique.
